Beauty editor Eleanor Langston’s high-design nail studio
iPhone and BlackBerry charging stations. Glasses of champagne. An online booking system. These are a few of the amenities Eleanor Langston offers at her Crosby Street nail salon, Paintbox. The former beauty editor – she has worked at Cosmopolitan, Self and Fitness magazines – selects 50 polishes each season, inspired by the runway and editorial trends to offer up to her discerning clients. Creative Director Julie Kandalec – who you may recognize from her years backstage at New York Fashion Week – then creates 25 of-the-moment nail designs exclusively available at the SoHo salon.
Brides or bridesmaids looking to plan a fun pre-wedding party can host a bridal shower or bachelorette party at the salon, with a customized playlist, sweets and of course champagne. Brides can also bring their bridal party in the day before or of the wedding for their big-day manis.

So what can you expect re: colors and designs? If you’re set on a nude or blush shade, you’re sure to find a polish that works for you. Eleanor creates two seasonal look books (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer) along with capsule collections throughout the year to offer a wide variety of colors. (You can view past and current designs on the Paintbox blog.)
Design options range from subtle to intricate and can include studs, foil or texture. “We offer manicures with peek-a-boo negative space, nails with expensive-looking foils, Swarovski studs, geometric and modern designs, as well as super-metallic glitters, and new takes on the traditional French manicure,” Eleanor tells Twirl New York.
Not sure what would look best on you? There’s plenty of time before the wedding to test drive colors and designs, but Eleanor shared that New York brides tend to crave subtle touches that feel special occasion, but they avoid anything design-wise that would distract from the dress. Some popular “bridal” choices have been nude shades with glitter accents, such as Ice Queen, or the Basic Instinct manicure with rose gold tips.
Brides can expect to pay $55 for a polish design and $65 for a gel design. Polish alone will cost you $35.
