Tie the Knot

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita’s stylish initiative to promote marriage equality

We love a great Save the Date card.  It signifies the beginning of a wedding.  It comes as a precursor to the wedding craziness and announces the celebratory process (champagne, gifting, etc) has started and will cumulate on one very important date.  Our friends at Tie The Knot, an organization that advocates for marriage equality through the sale of super stylish bow ties, have created the Supreme Save the Date card and we think it could be one of our favorite mark-your-calendar announcements yet.

Founded by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, star of TV’s Modern Family, and his husband Justin Mikita, Tie The Knot produces seasonal bow ties and ties through thetiebar.com that are perfect for grooms, groomsmen or any adorably fashionable wedding guest.  Proceeds from the collection fund organizations that are promoting gay and lesbian civil rights and educational campaigns.

On April 28th the Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments on the constitutionality of marriage and make a final decision in June.    Tie The Knot is reaching out to engaged gay and lesbian couples and asking them to create a personalized save the date card at tietheknot.org/supremesavethedate.   Tie The Knot will then print and mail each and every save the date to the SCOTUS Justices as a big reminder of all those weddings, and more importantly marriages, that are waiting to begin.   We have a feeling Justice Scalia just might have a passion for high quality paper stock.

Additionally through April, buy one Tie The Knot bow tie online using the promo code “equality” and receive a second tie of their choosing for free as part of their #tietheknot4equality campaign.  Tie The Knot is encouraging everyone to wear a bow tie on April 28th, the day marriage equality is heard at the Supreme Court, and share a photo on social media using #tietheknot4equality .
