MACAROON CAFE Carefully select two friends or relatives whose opinions you trust, and have them meet you for coffee and a quick breakfast at Macaroon Cafe. Nestled within the same building as your first appointment of the day, you can enjoy a classic croissant as you prep for a day of couture. And of course, you can get a few macaroons to-go for later enjoyment.
AMSALE Head on up to the second floor to Amsale. Here you will find not only the understated and minimal Amsale collection but the traditional Christos and the more fashion forward Kenneth Pool collections as well. All three are designed by Amsale Aberra herself and offer her classic take on these distinct bridal genres. It is a good idea to do some research and decide which direction you want to go in before you shop, but you should also be open to suggestions from the consultant. These pros know what works on each bride!
BERGDORF GOODMAN Walk west one avenue block to the grand dame of New York classic luxury shopping, Bergdorf Goodman. Head up to the seventh floor to the bridal salon, where you will find a wonderful collection of classic designer couture bridal. Designer Ines Di Santo is the standout here, whose collection ranges from A-line lace gowns to full skirted tulle ball gowns. Ines is in good company, you can find most of bridal’s big names at Bergdorf’s, including Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier and Oscar de la Renta. No need to rush, your lunch reservation is conveniently on the same floor.
BG RESTAURANT Time to relax and refuel. And what could be more tranquil than sweeping views of Central Park and some of the prettiest wallpaper we have ever seen? Join the classic ladies who lunch set at BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman. A glass of Cakebread Chardonay and BG’s own Gotham Salad or our personal favorite the jumbo lump crab salad sandwich, and you will be ready to venture to your next appointment.
CAROLINA HERRERA A quick cab ride up Madison Avenue will bring you to Carolina Herrera. The first floor houses ready to wear, so head upstairs to the bridal salon. This intimate space has the same prim and polished aura as Mrs. Herrera herself and if you are looking for classic, preppy chic you’re in the right place. Lace, bows and delicate touches of whimsy adorn Mrs. Herrera’s gowns, but they never feel fussy or overdone, just simply elegant in every way.
BAR PLEIADES AT THE SURREY You have had a serious day of shopping, so now it’s time to review everyone’s favorite gowns of the day. A quick walk one block north to The Surrey Hotel where you can stop into Bar Pleiades for a cocktail (or two). The decor was inspired by Coco Chanel and features lovely banquettes to relax and recoup. Try something adventurous from their signature cocktail menu such as “The New Black,” a combination of yellow sweet clover infused organic vodka, orgeat, lime and blackberry, or just keep it classic and toast your shopping team with a glass of champagne. Cheers!
