When we put a call out for New York themed save-the-date cards for the premiere issue of The Book we went gaga over Katie’s illustrated New York Suite with its mix of charcoal and watercolor drawings.  (The full suite is shown above).  It’s Katie’s quirky designs with traditional elements, her elegant layouts and funky fonts, that continue to draw us into viewing her portfolio of work for inspiration and editorial inclusion.

For over six years Katie Fischer Design has been creating fashion-forward, modern, chic and elegant paper suites for discerning couples. As a “boutique design studio with a love of all things paper,” Katie and her team create everything from invitations, save the dates and reply cards to custom dress portraits (makes a great gift from a bridesmaid) and The Story of Us, an illustrated timeline of how a couple fell in love—often displayed at the wedding.

While some paper studios have a certain focused aesthetic that is super modern or very traditional, Katie Fischer Design caters to a broad range of clients from trendsetters to art lovers, allowing the studio to create everything from high-art inspired stationery to elegant invitations in the more classic layout.

We want to reflect the couple’s style and spirit – so when we create something that’s truly ‘them’ then it’s timeless.—Katie

“It’s our job to bring your spirit to paper, so it’s our job to get to know you,” Katie tells Twirl New York as she explains how important it is to truly collaborate with each of her clients.  “Some couples want to be really involved all the way through while others want us to get an idea for them at the initial meeting and run with it.”

So how does the creative process work?  An initial meeting is usually held at her office in the Flatiron District, where couples can view a portfolio of her past work and show her some of the inspiration they’ve been pulling and pinning.  You can also shoot her an email of what you’re thinking before you meet, so she can put together ideas and examples ahead of time.

After your first meeting Katie will put together a visual proposal with images of how she envisions your wedding suite, along with pricing and a list of the various wedding stationery elements your suite will include.

After the contract is signed, Katie will make three invitation designs based off of your inspiration and conversations. Then there are up to two rounds of edits and changes,  and once the invitation design is finalized, she’ll create all the other coordinating pieces to go with it.

Katie Fischer Design has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, the Los Angeles Times, Glamour, Hamptons Magazine, and many other publications.

Starting price point for a custom design is $3,000 for 100 flat-printed invitations, including reply cards, on two-ply card stock with matching flat printed envelopes. Letterpress, engraving, foil-stamping, hand-painting, and custom calligraphy services are also available at an additional cost.
