WHO James Abel
WHAT Full service event design and production company
WHY With 20+ years of experience, this team knows how to do things right
Since 2001 James Abel Events has been creating imaginative and transformative events near (think the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manhattan and Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Westchester) and far (the beaches of Anguilla), but James equally enjoys working on an affair at a client’s backyard as much as at a five star hotel. “My goal is to make their vision a reality, and for the wine to be as delicious as the food, the decor as fantastic as the music. It all has to be equally great within the budget that is set,” James tells Twirl New York.
The firm handles all of the creative elements in-house, from the flowers to the invites to the linens and lighting. “My clients are looking to have guidance and management of their wedding while feeling enabled to have their own style show through.”
I avoid being matchy-matchy; it’s more important to have a common thread throughout the design process that pulls everything together in a cohesive way.—James
What makes James Abel Events different from other planners? Well his southern roots don’t hurt. A hospitable and gracious host, James is known for maintaining his cool in even the most stressful of situations.
He’s turned an uncovered outdoor affair into a fabulous tented bash when inclement weather was a concern, and he’s had ornate cakes collapse moments before an affair. The key, he says, is not letting the couple even know it happened. Being resourceful is one of his biggest attributes.
You can also rely on James Abel for his creative eye, and designs that are outside the box. For a wedding held at a celebrity’s parents’ estate James was inspired by the various trees throughout the property and created vignettes for guests to linger at beneath them.
James Abel Events handles everything from event conception and design to site selection, invitations, flowers, food and music. Pricing is 10-15% of the wedding’s budget.
