After six years, Erica and Dan got engaged over morning coffee in their home, with their dog as a witness. For their wedding they decided to wed at the River Cafe in DUMBO, with views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. But planning from afar, they’re based in California, wasn’t going to be easy, so they hired a team of some of the city’s top wedding professionals to bring their vision to life. “I was going for a timeless and elegant look and feel, with a touch of vintage,” recalls Erica. “I told the florist [Violet and Verde] that I wanted bright colors and let them go with it. They made a pinterest board for me to review and did an amazing job!”
I picked the River Cafe knowing that the view would be the star. —Erica
With a vintage New York theme, the River Cafe’s stunning views as the backdrop, and eye-popping floral arrangements in shades of orange, pink and red, the scene was set for a beautiful, and memorable affair. Erica wore a Monique Lhuillier gown, the first dress she tried on at the designer’s eponymous salon. For her something old and borrowed, she wore her grandmother’s wedding band, a sentimental touch that went with the vintage feeling of the day. “It had round and square diamonds and is really a unique and beautiful ring,” Erica tells Twirl New York. “I liked having it with me that day.” For the bridesmaids, Erica opted for simple, classic dresses in navy by Jenny Yoo, which really made the bright bouquets they carried pop.
Like the couple themselves, they say the ceremony was funny and a bit goofy, but the most memorable parts were the amazing band and the fabulous food, and a dance off between the bride’s brother-in-law and best friend, which had the crowd on their feet laughing as they watched the scene unfold.
By the end of the day the newlyweds couldn’t stop gushing about their wedding vendors, and how perfect the day was. “The River Cafe was amazing, the flowers were even better than we expected and our photographer scouted some really great locations for pre-wedding pictures,” she adds. After all their cross-country planning it was definitely a day they’ll never forget.
