To many, paper is the ultimate luxury.  They have been taught from an early age that how you correspond, and the paper you use, is a reflection of your class and taste.  For those who honor that tradition, and for those who just love the feel of opulent papers, Dempsey & Carroll is the stationer for you.

John Dempsey, an engraver by trade, and George Carroll, an advertising and business man, started Dempsey & Carroll in 1878  and quickly became the preferred engravers and social etiquette authority in New York society.  While the times have changed in the 137 years of operation, their philosophy of producing the finest hand-crafted papers and advice on social decorum has stayed the same.

Your wedding invitations, which announce the day of the ceremony, must be correct in form, artistically executed, without blemish, excellence of material, and from the Fashionable Stationer. -Messers. Dempsey & Carroll

No two wedding suites at Dempsey & Carroll will ever look the same.  Their consultants will work with you to create a bespoke suite so that every piece is a personalized reflection of the client and the event.  They believe that the paper story is the guests’ introduction to your celebration and is also the last impression made via the thank-you note.  Their storefront on Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side is open to walk-ins, so we suggest stopping in to see not only the examples of their bespoke invitations, but their adorable box sets and desk accessories.

We love their note card collections by wedding favorites Colin Cowie and Mark Ingram, and from fashion brands Milly and J. McLaughlin, perfect for all the quick thank-you notes a bride-to-be will be writing during the wedding planning process.

All of Dempsey & Carroll papers are milled in 100% cotton fiber and hand-engraved at their facility in Baltimore, Maryland.  In addition to the expert engraving process they have perfected, Dempsey & Carroll also offers letterpress, hand illustration, and an in-house calligrapher.
