COLLEEN & RUSSELL

BROOKLYN WINERY • WILLIAMSBURG • WINTER

Unafraid of adventure, Colleen and Russell met when they joined a mutual friend for an afternoon of cliff jumping during their senior year of college. Fast forward 10 years, Russell knew he had to propose to Colleen in some profound way. In order to add some surprise to the proposal, he waited two days into a trip to Iceland, proposing in front of the largest waterfall in the country. “I couldn’t believe he had been carrying the ring with him the whole time,” Colleen told Twirl New York. After a long courtship, the couple planned their traditional with a twist wedding in just 6 months.

When it came to choosing their wedding venue, the couple wanted something different, and found the Brooklyn Winery to be the perfect spot. “The space was so unique, and easy to decorate. I also loved the idea of a sit-down dinner. It was so formal, but the food was served family style,” says Colleen, who loved the mix of formal and informal aspects of the event. Playing off the venue’s succulent wall, G! Designs created loose bouquets and arrangements, using ranunculus, succulents, roses and lots of greenery. “I loved that look of being casual but still very elegant. The venue had an amazing succulent wall, so we played off of that a lot,” recalls the bride.

I just wanted it to be classic, where I could look at the photos and not be able to tell a decade or a trend.” — Colleen

Bridesmaids wore twobirds’ dresses in red, and Colleen wore a Pronovias wedding gown that she fell in love with as soon as she tried it on. “It was exactly what I had wanted. I knew it was the one when I looked down and saw that within the lace there were these tiny embroidered sand dollars. I am a beach person, but loved the idea of winter weddings, I thought it was so cool and a great way to tie in a part of me,” she explains.

From the beginning to the end, Colleen and Russell not only enjoyed their wedding, but felt every one of their vendors made their event extra special. “Everything went off without a hitch,” she remembers.  “It was the best night of our lives and it turned out better than expected.”
