What started as a chance meeting at a charity event turned into a relationship that eventually led to a beautiful wedding at the newly renovated Rainbow Room. Project Renewal, a charity whose goal is to end the cycle of homelessness through providing health, homes and jobs to those in need, was the meeting place for Claudia and Georg. “Everything felt very natural,” Claudia tells Twirl New York, “we didn’t have any of the dating awkwardness. We have the same sense of humor and the same values. We are just extremely compatible with each other.”

The ceremony, held in Sixty Five, took place as the sun set, so our guests were in awe of the city views around them.

After dating for two years Georg proposed and hid the engagement ring inside a box of cupcakes from her favorite bakery, Buttercup Bake Shop. After she said yes, the newly-engaged couple celebrated over dinner at one of their favorite jaunts, Osteria Morini, followed by a family celebration at the Crosby Hotel.

Having fallen in love with the views and space at The Rainbow Room the couple booked it for their Fall wedding. “It is truly breathtaking,” Claudia shares. “We wanted a quintessential New York venue, and the weather was gorgeous so we were able to take pictures all around Rockefeller Center and on the terrace outside the Rainbow Room. Our wedding could not have been more beautiful.”

They kept the decor simple, allowing the Art Deco design of the landmarked venue shine through. “Since the Rainbow Room is such a stunning space in itself, we kept our floral design simple and elegant, with our tables featuring alternating arrangements of all white flowers,” Claudia explains.

Claudia, with help from her mom, worked with Meredith Waga Perez, owner of Belle Fleur, to designing the decor for both the ceremony and reception. Large pillar candles lined the ceremony aisle, which also adorned with white roses. For the reception, Claudia’s mom suggested the high and low floral arrangements on each table. ““My mom picked out the alternating table arrangements; she is great with flowers!”

When it came to the bride’s wedding-day look, she chose a Vera Wang ball gown, because of the timeless look it had. “I didn’t want anything too trendy and look back on my wedding photos and have the dress be very typical of the time period.” The strapless silk ball gown was adorned with hand applique Chantilly lace. “It was definitely a traditional wedding gown, and I loved the dramatic train with its floral embroidery.”

Her bridesmaids, two sisters-in-law and three of close friends, wore blue dresses by Dessy and carried white bouquets. To contrast with her bridesmaids’ all-white blooms, Claudia’s bridal bouquet had touches of blue, which also coordinated with the blue bridesmaid dresses.

For the newlyweds’ reception entrance, the couple walked down the stairs into the Rainbow Room to Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered played by Hank Lane’s Kenny Ford Band, and immediately into their first dance, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. “I had never made such a grand entrance before!” Claudia remembers with excitement.

And while they had fun, their only regret was that they didn’t get to eat the delicious menu they selected for their wedding dinner. “We were told by nearly everyone how incredible the Rainbow Room food was, and we keep saying how we have to go back to the Rainbow Room so we can get a chance to eat more than we did at our wedding!”

With Georg now on the Board of Project Renewal, the charity somewhat responsible for their meeting, perhaps he has some influence over the locale of their next fundraiser, and then Claudia and Georg can enjoy not just the menu, but relive the wonderful memories of that fall evening.
