City Hall Chic
Elegant wedding dresses and suits for your civil ceremony
Some of the most sophisticated wedding-day looks for 2016 and 2017 weddings weren’t floor-length bridal gowns but short dresses, pant suits and two-piece skirt and top sets. Suited for an unconventional bride with a fashion-forward eye, they were modern in style, sexy in silhouette and breathtakingly beautiful. Couples planning to wed at City Hall, a la Carrie Bradshaw and Big, or who are having a low-key affair where a ball gown or A-line wedding dress won’t do, will be happy to find that this fall bridal salons will be stocked with style-appropriate looks for the 21st-century bride looking for something cooler than classic.
Who says short has to be boring? This Temperley Bridal frock is modern, feminine and fun. Paired with a traditional bouquet or something more funky for that Coachella look, this easy, breezy boho style is one of the few wedding dresses you can probably get away with wearing again.
Temperley Bridal is sold at Harbour Bridal, 85 Main Street, Cold Spring Harbor, (631) 367-3231.
There are often flowers on wedding gowns but these blooming bridal looks made us swoon. This sophisticated print on delicate tulle covered all of the important places, while suggesting sexiness with its sheerness. Do two pieces make it more contemporary? Absolutely. Wear it to your civil ceremony or restaurant reception after your I do’s.
Mira Zwillinger is available at Mark Ingram Atelier, 110 East 55th Street near Park Ave., (212) 319-6778.
This bespoke Carolina Herrera design is quite elegant and refined with cropped ivory pants paired with a high-neck long-sleeved blouse. Accessorized with a dreamy embellished veil, it is more Audrey Hepburn than Annie Hall.
Carolina Herrera is available at Carolina Herrera 954 Madison Avenue at 75th St., (212)249-6552.
Christian Soriano has wowed fashion fans with his red-carpet looks and in 2016 debuted his bridal collection at Kleinfeld. With a mix of traditional and far-from-it looks, brides can choose ball gowns and business-inspired suits for their wedding day. This short and chic, above-the-knee dress is made even more feminine with playful bows placed off-the-shoulder.
Christian Siriano is exclusively available at Kleinfeld Bridal, 110 West 20th Street near 6th Ave., (646) 633-4300.
Pants Made Femme
Always known for her ladylike, feminine designs, Lela Rose’s pants and strapless top had us at brocade. The unique fabric, traditional neckline (yes bearing shoulders is still oh-so-sexy) and streamlined silhouette of the pants keeps this look appropriate for city hall, a loft space or hotel rooftop.
Lela Rose is available at Gabriella’s, 155 Wooster Street near Houston St., Suite 3W, (212) 206-1915.
