It’s not often a bride has had experience as a wedding planner, so when it came time for Aya and Richard’s wedding, the bride knew planning her own affair would be the “ultimate project.” With a groom who is also in the events industry, Aya tells Twirl New York they had a vision of their ideal celebration and decided, go big or go home!
When the couple saw the second floor of The Bowery Hotel, they knew they had found the perfect locale. They loved the space and layout at The Bowery, with its separate areas that could be revealed throughout the course of the night, and embraced it for the inspiration of their overall decor, theme and flow.
When the couple saw two deer heads in the space, they felt getting married at The Bowery Hotel was kismet. Richard’s grandfather was a taxidermist and they incorporated taxidermy into their decor to honor him. The overall theme was a “Post Hunt Renaissance Banquet” which coordinated with the Bowery, designed to look like an old hunting lodge. From their decision to have open seating at a cocktail-style reception to the bride’s beautiful branch bouquet, Aya and Richard thought outside the box for their wedding’s details.
“Our genius designer, Christian Fastrup, worked with what The Bowery already had in place and elevated it so tastefully and seamlessly that our guests thought the design elements were there all along. There were so many details around every corner, on every surface. Each themed room revealed details specifically created for the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and dancing,” the bride explained.
One tip Aya does have for couples planning their weddings, is to hire a day-of coordinator. “Enjoy every second of the day and don’t worry about the details. It was hard for me to let go but I did and reminded myself to be in the moment as it goes by so fast.”
We wanted a unique yet timeless design, and Christian blew us away with how he achieved that! —Aya
