With a down-to-earth personality and great eye, it’s easy to see why makeup savvy brides hire her for their wedding day
WHO Ashlee Glazer
WHAT Makeup Artist
WHERE Based in Soho but travels to weddings worldwide
WHY Because she’s the go-to makeup artist for Oscar de la Renta’s bridal runway show
Brides-to-be can be sure that they’re in good hands with makeup artist Ashlee Glazer. The bridal beauty veteran has been making brides and big-name celebs look and feel beautiful for over 10 years.
Ashlee began as a makeup artist at a local salon a decade ago and quickly built up a clientele due to her expert skills and friendly personality. (Just a few minutes chatting with her and you’ll feel as if she’s been your BFF for years.) After the salon she was hired as a retail and sales artist at MAC and was with the famed brand for five years before launching her eponymous firm, Ashlee Glazer, LLC, four years ago.
My girls are fashionable, stylish and cool. They’re pretty classic and confident, and know who they are as women.—Ashlee Glazer
While at MAC her experience backstage at various designer fashion shows – Zac Posen, Peter Som and Altuzarra to name a few – helped her train her eye for detail and speed working with theory. For bridal fashion week Ashlee is the in-house makeup artist for Oscar de la Renta.
In addition to working on runway models, Ashlee also works with celebrity clients and fashion designers. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa call on her for their public appearances, as does Rachel Zoe, Jessica Szohr, Lilliana Vasquez from The TODAY Show and Zanna Robers Rassi from Marie Claire magazine and E! News.
Now that we got the big names out of the way, let’s get down to the bridal makeup details.
We had heard Ashlee’s name over the years and seen her listed in real wedding credits at various sites and magazines, including Martha Stewart Weddings and Style Me Pretty, but we hadn’t been introduced until Tracy Taylor Lord picked her to do the makeup at a styled rehearsal dinner shoot Twirl New York planned with Todd English at The Plaza Food Hall last summer. We just loved how down to earth she was as well as the work she did on our bride-to-be. (You can see the photos in Twirl New York’s Fall 2015 issue of The Book.)
Brides who reach out to Ashlee tend to be pretty makeup savvy. “My girls are fashionable, stylish and cool,” Ashlee tells Twirl New York. “A lot of them work in the fashion and beauty industries as buyers, in PR, advertising and marketing. They’re into fashion and pop culture, and don’t want something too natural. They’re pretty classic and confident, and know who they are as women.”
If you’re not getting married in the five boroughs Ashlee can travel to your destination whether domestic or abroad. She’s been to the Hamptons, California, Mexico, the Caribbean and even Europe for destination weddings.
Ashlee’s pricing is based on the bride plus four people. If you have more women in need of makeup she can bring makeup artists with her for additional fees. Saturdays will run between $2,500 and $3,000 (for the bride + 4), and $150 per additional bridesmaid. Sunday weddings may cost a little less but the rate depends on the time of year, and holiday weekend prices are doubled. If you are getting married over an hour and an half outside the city travel fees can include overnight hotel rates, especially for early morning start times, and car or airfare, but each situation will vary based on the client’s needs.
