Sometimes inspiration can come from a variety of influences. For Alison and Jason, the vintage look of their venue, their African Safari honeymoon, and their careers were all influential in creating an event that was chic, fun, personal and embraced the winter season. 501 Union was the perfect venue for the couple that loved its art deco details (notice Alison’s Marchesa dress also makes a nod to the by-gone era, and we give more suggestions just like this on how your venue can inspire your fashion in The Book, page 36). Upon arriving at the reception in school buses (both bride and groom are teachers) guests were given vintage teacups to find out their seating assignment but also to warm up with a warm bourbon cider at the bar. In the courtyard, Melissa McNeely of Events by Melissa McNeely created a vintage safari setting complete with animal figurines, mosquito netting, and a vintage typewriter, all with a nod to the stylish “Out of Africa” vibe. As you can see, this bride and groom embraced the winter-y elements outside while keeping everything warm inside.

Alison and Jason wanted a vintage art deco style wedding with lots of cozy elements that embraced the cold season and the stylish vibe of 501 union.—Melissa McNeely, Events by Melissa McNeeley

The venue has it’s own vintage car that we decked out as though the couple was going on safari from there, but in 1930.—Melissa McNeely, Events by Melissa McNeeley
