The 2016 Oscars’ Best Dressed Red Carpet Looks
Find wedding gown inspiration from the actresses at the 88th Annual Academy Awards
If you’re like us you spent Sunday night commenting on the red carpet looks at the Oscars. From brightly-colored and pastel-hued gowns to deep V and asymmetrical necklines to floral and shimmering embellishments, Hollywood’s A-list actresses chose a range of beautiful gowns that can easily inspire brides in the choice of their own wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses. Here were some of our favorites red carpet dresses from the 2016 Oscars to inspire you.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé
Nominated for the Best Actress award for her role in Carol, Cate Blanchett tops our Best Dressed List in this pale blue Amani Privé gown. The three-dimensional flowers with subtle crystal details was so elegant and feminine. And her Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings and bracelets were the perfect complement.
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
The sunny yellow custom Louis Vuitton dress Best Actress winner, for The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander wore to the 2016 Oscars reminded us of the glamorous gowns worn in the 1950s. The high-low hemline made it easy to walk the red carpet – and show off her open-toed lucite block heel shoes. The delicate crystal embellishments were more refined than flashy, which is the look we think you should be going for when attending the Oscars.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Mad Max star, and previous Best Actress winner, Charlize Theron wore one of the sexier gowns of the night. The Dior spokeswoman chose a red-hot sheath with deep V-neckline and open back. To complete her red-carpet look she chose Jimmy Choo sandals and a long silver pendant necklace, which was a sparkling addition to the minimalist design.
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell
While a pantsuit isn’t common on the Oscar red carpet, Brandon Maxwell’s formal pants with a flowing train for Lady Gaga, who was nominated for Best Song (Til It Happens to You for the documentary The Hunting Ground) was stunning. The statement-making look was formal in white and quite elegant.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture
Four years ago Rooney Mara walked the Oscars’ red carpet in another Givenchy Haute Couture ivory gown, but the similarities end there. The Best Actress nominee for Carol chose a sheer lace gown with long sleeves, thigh-high slit in the center of the skirt, and a diamond-shaped cut out in the center of the bodice. The mix of modest and sexy was topped off with an up-do that was more cool than couture.
Daisy Ridley in Chanel
Presenter and star of Star Wars: the Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley looked smashing in her Chanel Haute Couture dress and Christian Louboutin custom shoes. With a Chanel clutch and earrings, bracelet and ring by Chanel Fine Jewelry, the force was definitely with her as she rocked an embellished gown and equally stunning accessories.
Rachel McAdams in August Getty Atelier
Best Supporting actress nominee for Spotlight, Rachel McAdams walked the Oscars’ red carpet in a stunning hunter green gown by August Getty Atelier. The high-neck halter gown had an up-to-there slit—the best way to show off sexy Stuart Weitzman heels—was complemented by Niwaka jewels for a very contemporary look.
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein Collection
Inspired by her Irish heritage, Best Actress nominee for Brooklyn, Saoirse Ronan, wore a shimmering emerald green gown by Calvin Klein with plunging v-neckline and geo-metric velvet straps on the open back. She paired the sequin floor-length gown with Chopard earrings and Roger Vivier shoes.
Priyanka Chopra in Zuhair Murad
Quantico star Priyanka Chopra channeled the white aisle in a Zuhair Murad gown that will be hitting bridal salons in 2016. Paired with Monique Lhuillier shoes, a Rauwolf clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, it’s no wonder she Instagrammed, “Feeling like a princess in her chariot,” on her way to the Oscars’ red carpet.
