For a bride who is looking for something a little more naughty than nice for her bridal shower, she is sure to find some ideas at this Long Island shower-meets-bachelorette-party planned by Leslie Mastin Events. “The bride was very specific from the beginning that she did not want a ‘traditional’ bridal shower,” explains Leslie.
Inspired by a Queen of the Night meets Magic Mike theme, Leslie worked with the bride’s step-mom and sister to create an over-the-top fantasy land for the bride and her friends, which included shirtless waiters, vibrating seating cards (yes, you read that right), and a Chippendales-style dance revue. “This was a fun new way to do a bridal shower that almost mirrored what you might expect to find at a bachlorette party,” she adds. “And it was the first bridal shower I ever did that went into overtime!”
The party’s tone was set from the start with a shimmering in turquoise invitation that made it clear this was a “sassy, sexy and oh so sweet” affair. Guests were instructed to wrap their gifts “in clear” so there would be no need to spend time opening each of them, and to bring a bottle of wine in lieu of traditional wishing well items. “Everyone attending seemed to enjoy the fact there is more time for mingling and not sitting for hours upon hours watching the bride unwrap all the gifts,” Leslie tells Twirl New York. “There was more time to enjoy the company.”
Leslie worked with jesGORDON/properFUN to create the party’s festive decor. The house was decorated in a range of turquoise and fuchsia accented with peacock feathers, and details that included hot pink cocktail napkins embossed with #britoria (the wedding hashtag) in turquoise from Alpine Creative Group, centerpieces of pink flowers mixed with feathers and color-coordinated rock candy treats.
Generation Events‘ Jason Fioto played music all evening and well into the night. After dinner, and the Chippendales revue, Jason turned this bridal shower into a dance party with a set of top 40 hits that got all the ladies on the dance floor. The guys (the groom, friends and husbands of the guests) were invited to join in the fun towards the end of the night.
Famed caterer Peter Callahan whipped up a delicious menu that began with passed hors d’oeuvres: mini caprese pizzas in custom, color-coordinated boxes, crudités and Coca-Cola in miniature bottles, passed by shirt-less waiters. An outdoor bar, complete with topless bar tenders, served up traditional libations and three signature cocktails.
For the three-course sit-down meal, guests enjoyed a spirited soup trio of a spicy gazpacho shot with tequila and lime, fresh corn with Hudson New York corn whiskey and vichyssoise with caviar and vodka. Guests could choose their main: seared sushi tuna tacos with mini Patron margaritas or sliced hanger steak with mini cucumber gin and tonics.
A Fireball Cart circled the room during dinner offering a cordial: A mini fireball shot.
For dessert, “sweet and happy endings” were enjoyed by all in the form of a bite-sized buffet of red velvet cake, apple crumb pies, strawberry rhubarb pie, mini sundaes, vanilla milkshakes with chocolate chip cookies, and limoncello ice pops.
It was the first bridal shower I ever did that went into overtime!—Leslie
All the sexy details fit to keep the risqué mood going. Vibrators in the shapes of lipsticks adorned the escort card table, blow-up dolls were used as photo booth props, Magic Mike XXL played on a flatscreen TV as the guests dined, and a Chippendale revue surprised the bride and her guests with a floor show that won’t soon be forgotten.
